All the drama at my work.
I don’t know how office drama works. Maybe, I do.
So, I work for a nonprofit organization, that has work safety and a flexible working environment. Since, it is an NPO, of course, there is a salary range. We don’t get our desired monthly pay like other companies (private) might afford.
One Saturday, some of my colleagues were discussing their salaries when I walked into the office. They asked how much I get paid, and I answered. But before that, there was an awkward atmosphere like we were talking about something that we should be talking about.
There is a background information is needed here. There are a few people I trust and share stuff with. When any of us share within the group, we have the confidence that whatever we talk about and discuss will not leave the group. Naturally, I had the confidence that whatever I shared would stay within the group. Well, that wasn't the case.
While we were discussing this issue, I specifically warned her not to use our names. Also, I suggested that we raise the issue of when it is time to negotiate our new contract which was bound the happen in a few months. Moreover, some changes are happening administratively in a few months and suggested that we can raise the issue then. On top of that, I pointed out that, we will have more resources due to the future closure of one of our centers. At the end of the day, I felt like I was used.
From my supervisor’s perspective, I understand very well. She is a very hard-working lady and does a lot when it comes to people who work under her. She makes sure that everybody gets everything they need and tries to fill any gaps that might occur. For example: I wanted to go home after 2-years lockdown for three weeks. She said, “Go, Be with your family, and Have a nice vacation.” Of course, I made sure my travel plans weren't hindering anybody’s schedule. That is the understanding I get from, and I really respect my supervisor. I am very sure that everybody that I work with will say the same thing.
Well, there is nothing I can do. I will know more when I go tomorrow.
The drama continues.
